MSc, RD, PhD
Andrea Glenn is a Registered Dietitian and Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, working under the mentorship of Drs. Frank Hu and David Jenkins. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Toronto under the mentorship of Dr. John Sievenpiper. During her Ph.D., she developed a Portfolio Diet score for use in epidemiological study designs, which she then applied to two international cohorts (PREDIMED-Plus and the Women’s Health Initiative) to assess the role of the Portfolio diet in cardiometabolic disease prevention. She is currently continuing this work during her postdoctoral fellowship using the Harvard cohorts and by using a novel technique for dietary assessment (metabolomics). She has vast work experience in nutrition research (clinical trials & epidemiology), teaching, and knowledge translation. Andrea’s specific interest and expertise are in plant-based dietary patterns (including the Portfolio and vegetarian diets) and the glycemic index in preventing and managing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Using evidence-based practice and knowledge translation activities, she strives to educate healthcare professionals and the public to reduce the burden of chronic disease globally. Andrea is also interested in the impact of dietary patterns on both population and planetary health.
